Pedestrian Survives Vehicle Strike August 5, 2006
Rehoboth Beach, DE – A Millsboro area
teen was in satisfactory condition with a broken leg and other injuries after
walking in front of an on-coming truck Saturday afternoon outside of Rehoboth Beach.
Danielle
Messick, 17, crossed State Route 1 on her way to a restroom when she crossed
the path of a southbound tan 2004 Chevrolet Silverado on the Service Road (County Route 14A) in front
of West Rehoboth at 2:07 p.m.
Messick was
thrown 37 feet before landing on the pavement. The state police helicopter
flew her to Christiana Hospital, where she was
treated for a fractured left thigh bone and multiple cuts and abrasions from
the road surface. The driver of the truck, Steven R. Carey, 46, of Rehoboth Beach, was not
injured.
Messick faces charges for
pedestrian violations.

extended family.)
