SO FAR, 3 FILE FOR DEWEY BEACH COMMISSIONER RACE
Deadline to file to run for commissioner and to register to vote is 5 p.m. this Thursday

As of 4 p.m. Friday, only William J. Stevens along with incumbent Commissioners David Moskowitz and Gary S. Persinger had filed to run for the two commissioner seats that are up for grabs. Here they were at the Dewey Lions Club candidate forum in 2018.

This would appear to be a rematch of the 2018 election if it were not for the fact that Dewey resident Peter Briccotto has been repeatedly stating on social media in recent weeks that he is going to be running for commissioner as well. Attempts to reach Briccotto over the weekend have been unsuccessful although he is expected to file shortly.

POLICE INVESTIGATE BIDEN CAMPAIGN SIGN THEFTS
And other local Joe Biden news...

This past week -- ironically the same week as the Democratic National Convention -- Rehoboth Beach police received five complaints regarding thefts of Biden campaign signs from the Country Club Estates area.

Biden signs were taken from two properties on State Road on Sunday and another last Monday. Police also received a theft report from Country Club Drive last Monday but that theft actually happened two days earlier, says Lt. Jaime Riddle, police spokesman. On Thursday, a short woman in her 20's with long bright red hair was seen taking a Biden sign from a property on Sandalwood Street, he said. She wore a teal-colored shirt and a black mask and fled in a black Jeep SUV.

In other Biden news, the Biden beach home switched to "visit mode" this past weekend. So keep the camera handy!

Here are some local Biden news tidbits:

ANOTHER SWIMMING ADVISORY AT REHOBOTH AVENUE

Another "recreational water advisory" was issued this past Thursday following bacterial test results that were above the standard. This particular test location at Rehoboth Avenue, which is close to one of the stormwater outfall pipes, was issued a previous advisory on July 30. This swimming advisory was not a beach closing, nor did this advisory affect the entire beach. This sign was posted to the rear of the Rehoboth Avenue lifeguard stand. Typically the lifeguards then expand the no-swimming area around the jetty and outfall pipe.

Officials speculated that these bacteria most likely originated from wildlife sources and increased rainfall, waves or wildlife feeding near the surf, such as shorebirds, marine mammals or other warm-blooded animals. According to the Rehoboth DEOS weather station, the city had 0.65 inch of rain last Wednesday, the same day the sample in question was taken. The advisory was issued at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday and lifted at 2:45 p.m. on Friday after Thursday's re-test sample was within the limits.

The current advisory status and history of test results for monitored recreational waters in Delaware, including ocean and bay beaches as well as some inland ponds, is posted at https://recwaters.dnrec.delaware.gov/. Anyone can sign up at that site to be notified of water advisories when they are issued.

CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM ACTIVATES AT STEAKHOUSE

Firefighters were called to the Houston White Co. steakhouse on Rehoboth Avenue around 2:30 p.m. last Tuesday after a carbon monoxide detector activated.

Arriving firefighters reported a CO level of 200ppm which is high enough to cause dizziness, nausea and fatigue. They found that an exhaust vent was missing from a gas hot water heater. The firefighters ventilated the building to clear the gas and called for a building inspector. No injuries were reported.

MAN CRASHES CADILLAC ON COASTAL HIGHWAY, LATER ARRESTED IN REHOBOTH

The driver of this smashed-up Cadillac CTS was arrested after he and the CTS were discovered around 9 p.m. last Friday. Rehoboth Beach police found the driver and his smashed CTS leaking transmission fluid in the 300 block of Stockley Street.

About an hour earlier, a car matching the description had been involved in a hit-and-run crash on Coastal Highway near Sea Air Avenue.

The state trooper who investigated that accident was called to this scene where he administered a sobriety test. The driver was later placed under arrest. No word yet from the state police on specific charges.

These two SUVs were involved in a crash at 1st Street and Olive Avenue around 3:40 p.m. last Tuesday.

Fire/EMS personnel had responded to the scene, but occupants from both vehicles declined an ambulance ride to the hospital.

MUSEUM PROGRAM EXAMINES REHOBOTH'S RELIGIOUS ROOTS

In 1873, the Rehoboth Beach Camp Meeting Association bought land in what is now the City of Rehoboth Beach for the purposes of creating a religious retreat. Shown is a tabernacle structure built in 1968 celebrating the 95th Anniversary of the founding of that association. In recognition of the city's religious roots, the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society is sponsoring a two-part online program, the first of which "airs" this Thursday on Zoom.

The area now known as Rehoboth Beach began as a Methodist Campground. Since that time many other denominations have created their own houses of worship in Rehoboth. This Conversations on History program is actually a preview of an exhibition the museum plans to display next summer. Paula Roberts, the museum's exhibit manager, will talk about what she has learned of faith traditions while researching the city's different congregations.

Details are on the RBM website.
