ANOTHER SWIMMING ADVISORY AT REHOBOTH AVENUE

Another "recreational water advisory" was issued this past Thursday following bacterial test results that were above the standard. This particular test location at Rehoboth Avenue, which is close to one of the stormwater outfall pipes, was issued a previous advisory on July 30. This swimming advisory was not a beach closing, nor did this advisory affect the entire beach. This sign was posted to the rear of the Rehoboth Avenue lifeguard stand. Typically the lifeguards then expand the no-swimming area around the jetty and outfall pipe.

Officials speculated that these bacteria most likely originated from wildlife sources and increased rainfall, waves or wildlife feeding near the surf, such as shorebirds, marine mammals or other warm-blooded animals. According to the Rehoboth DEOS weather station, the city had 0.65 inch of rain last Wednesday, the same day the sample in question was taken. The advisory was issued at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday and lifted at 2:45 p.m. on Friday after Thursday's re-test sample was within the limits.

The current advisory status and history of test results for monitored recreational waters in Delaware, including ocean and bay beaches as well as some inland ponds, is posted at https://recwaters.dnrec.delaware.gov/. CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM ACTIVATES AT STEAKHOUSE

Firefighters were called to the Houston White Co. steakhouse on Rehoboth Avenue around 2:30 p.m. last Tuesday after a carbon monoxide detector activated.

Arriving firefighters reported a CO level of 200ppm which is high enough to cause dizziness, nausea and fatigue. They found that an exhaust vent was missing from a gas hot water heater. The firefighters ventilated the building to clear the gas and called for a building inspector. No injuries were reported.

MAN CRASHES CADILLAC ON COASTAL HIGHWAY, LATER ARRESTED IN REHOBOTH

The driver of this smashed-up Cadillac CTS was arrested after he and the CTS were discovered around 9 p.m. last Friday. Rehoboth Beach police found the driver and his smashed CTS leaking transmission fluid in the 300 block of Stockley Street.

About an hour earlier, a car matching the description had been involved in a hit-and-run crash on Coastal Highway near Sea Air Avenue.

The state trooper who investigated that accident was called to this scene where he administered a sobriety test. The driver was later placed under arrest. No word yet from the state police on specific charges.

DRIVER IN CRASH CITED FOR RUNNING STOP SIGN

These two SUVs were involved in a crash at 1st Street and Olive Avenue around 3:40 p.m. last Tuesday.

Lt. Jaime Riddle, police spokesman, says one driver was charged with disregarding a stop sign.

Fire/EMS personnel had responded to the scene, but occupants from both vehicles declined an ambulance ride to the hospital.

MUSEUM PROGRAM EXAMINES REHOBOTH'S RELIGIOUS ROOTS

In 1873, the Rehoboth Beach Camp Meeting Association bought land in what is now the City of Rehoboth Beach for the purposes of creating a religious retreat. Shown is a tabernacle structure built in 1968 celebrating the 95th Anniversary of the founding of that association. In recognition of the city's religious roots, the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society is sponsoring a two-part online program, the first of which "airs" this Thursday on Zoom.

The area now known as Rehoboth Beach began as a Methodist Campground. Since that time many other denominations have created their own houses of worship in Rehoboth. This Conversations on History program is actually a preview of an exhibition the museum plans to display next summer. Paula Roberts, the museum's exhibit manager, will talk about what she has learned of faith traditions while researching the city's different congregations.

MERR NEWS--- Suzanne Thurman from the MERR Institute says that her organization had investigated the death of four loggerhead sea turtles this past week. Two appeared to have died from boat propeller strikes and the other two were undetermined. Three of the sea turtles were found at Broadkill and the other was at Gordon's Pond.

SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS WOMAN DRIVING ACROSS LAWNS--- Ring surveillance video posted to Nextdoor this past Thursday showed what appeared to be a confused older woman driving over a lawn in the Rehoboth Beach Yacht & Country Club around 2 a.m. Commenting on the post was Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf who said she was an 88-year-old woman who lives down the road from him. He had contacted the state police who issued an alert for her. She was at one point tracked to Cheswold and Dover. Troopers were eventually able to contact her and talked to her until she made it home safely around 6 a.m. She had been gone for about eight hours, he pointed out. "She is home and safe and the car keys have been taken from her! The DSP handled it with special care..." he said, noting that "The Nextdoor app really paid off today."

MOUNTAIRE WORKERS INJURED IN GRAIN SILO MISHAP--- Two Mountaire Farms workers were injured when a grain silo experienced a structural compromise. According to an EMS report, grain covered both men for about five to 10 minutes. It was reported around 8 a.m. last Thursday at the Mountaire Farms facility on John J. Williams Highway near Millsboro. Both men were taken to the hospital with what sounded like non-life threatening injuries.

BOAT RUNS ONTO ROCKS AT INDIAN RIVER INLET, GETS STUCK--- Several agencies responded after a 33-foot Grady-White Express was getting knocked around by waves and became stranded on the north jetty at the Indian River Inlet around 9:15 p.m. last Thursday. None of the four persons on board were injured. About 30 minutes later, Sea Tow Delmarva pulled the vessel off the rocks and towed it to a marina. SERIOUS CRASH NEAR ASSATEAGUE--- Two persons were injured, one critically, after a crash on Stephen Decatur Highway just west of Assateague around 10:20 p.m. last Thursday. The critical patient was a woman with a head injury who was flown to a trauma center.

FOURTH KITTEN HAS FOUND A HOME--- The kitten that Bob Harrison said was still on the streets last week has been located. It has been adopted by a resident on Grove Street who has already taken it to the vet and is bottle-feeding it. The mother continues to rove Grove Park and nearby streets. VAN GETS STUCK ON DEAUVILLE DUNE CROSSOVER--- Police found a woman in a large van that was stuck on the dune crossover at the Deauville lot around 4:15 a.m. last Friday. No word yet from police on charges, if any, nor how she was able to enter the lot after closing. A tow truck was used to remove the van.
