BIDEN EVACUATED FROM NORTH SHORES AFTER PLANE SCARE
President Joe Biden's visit this past week was his sixth since entering office and probably the most memorable so far.
Weather impacted his schedule Thursday evening, making it challenging for him to make it to town for his wife's 71st birthday on Friday. After several schedule changes, he landed at Dover Air Force Base and came to town in this 33-vehicle motorcade.
General aviation is restricted while he is in the area. So when a Cessna 172 was headed for Cape Henlopen from New Jersey around 12:50 p.m. on Saturday, it was of immediate concern.
Two F15 Eagles from the Louisiana Air National Guard were assigned to the "combat air patrol" and confronted the intruding Cessna along with a Coast Guard helicopter. Here's an incredible photo captured of the F15 buzzing over Rehoboth for the intercept around 12:52 p.m.

"While I'm fishing near Gordon's Pond, a combat military jet roars in out of the blue and starts to circle something," wrote Paul Warren. "Biden is here and slowly it becomes clear. A helicopter can be seen moving into the restricted airspace from the ocean. It keeps coming. The jet circles again and 500 feet from the beach and 1500 feet in the air it ejects what initially I thought was some explosive but was actually two white signal flares. I was scared. Meanwhile, the helicopter keeps coming and I see it is the distinctive orange of the Coast Guard," he added.

The air security team immediately and repeatedly attempted to make contact with the airplane by radio and using those flares. Here's the message they gave on the aircraft emergency frequency, 121.5 MHz. The pilot seemed to have gotten the idea fairly quickly, but the intrusion had already triggered an evacuation of the President.
Within minutes, Secret Service vehicles clogged Rehoboth Avenue at Second Street where the President was presumably taking cover at the Rehoboth Beach firehouse.
Interestingly, the Delaware GOP convention had just taken place at the adjacent convention center!
The Secret Service later stated that the privately owned aircraft entered the restricted airspace over Rehoboth after mistakenly entering a secured area. The aircraft was immediately escorted out of the restricted airspace. Preliminary investigation reveals the pilot was not on the proper radio channel, was not following the NOTAMS (Notice to Airmen) that had been filed and was not following published flight guidance. CBS News reported that the plane landed at the Cape May Airport at 1:11 p.m.
Ironically, just as that situation was being resolved, another airplane was escorted to Delaware Coastal Airport where the pilot was met by state troopers and the Secret Service. WGMD's Walt Palmer forwarded this interesting radio conversation the pilot has as he lands.
The motorcade departed the firehouse and Rehoboth Avenue reopened around 1:30 p.m.

IN SEARCH OF THAT BIDEN PHOTO-OP!
Everywhere the President traveled in Rehoboth this past weekend, crowds gathered with many hoping to catch a glimpse and a photo!

While press pool members had their advantages, that did not discourage the public from taking a photo of their own, like those who waited across from city hall.
On Friday morning, a 17-vehicle motorcade made its way to the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center -- as was done last year -- so Biden could deliver remarks on the May jobs report. But tight security kept the crowds way back and that event offered little for those hoping for a presidential photo.
The best photo-op location appeared to be the 5:30 p.m. mass at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church. Just like at city hall, hundreds of spectators gathered waiting to see the President.
Many were "wanded" by the Secret Service and were allowed to watch the President arrive from across the street.
The watching and waiting paid off for many of those who came. He arrived at 5:35 p.m.
And when departing, he offered the public more photo opportunities.

Fox News reported that the President was also photographed on the beach carrying beach bags after Saturday's security scare!

SHOTS FIRED IN DEWEY BEACH BRAWL; NO INJURIES
Multiple police agencies responded to assist Dewey Beach police after an officer reported several shots fired during a brawl on Saulsbury Street, oceanside.

A Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement agent was in the area when he reported the shots just before 11:40 p.m. Saturday, but it was unclear if the eight to 10 shots were fired in his direction.
The brawl allegedly involved about 20 males. Several fled but police detained a handful for questioning. Police say those come from Pennsylvania and have been cooperative.
Early social media reports speculated that it was connected with The Starboard. But both police and Steve "Monty" Montgomery, the popular nightspot's owner, said the shooting had nothing to do with his restaurant and those involved had not been customers. "We took safety precautions to ensure all our people stayed safe when we didn't know exactly what was happening," Montgomery explained, as to why they "sheltered in place."
This incident remains under investigation and there is no report of any injuries. No guns were found but police did find shell casings. All suspects were released. If anyone has information or video regarding this investigation, please call Dewey Beach police, 302-227-1110.

MAN ARRESTED IN DOWNTOWN LOT WITH WHAT LOOKED LIKE A GUN
Much like Dewey Beach, gun crime is rare in Rehoboth Beach as well. That's why several full-time police officers responded to this parking lot on the corner of Lake Avenue and Rehoboth Avenue after a man in a black Nissan had supposedly waived what looked like a gun after being told to leave.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Lt. Jaime Riddle, police spokesman, said on Saturday he would have info on any charges later today.

KITE-SURFER HITS WOMAN AND NISSAN ON COASTAL HWY
A kite-surfer lost control while kite-surfing and hit the "emergency release" this past Sunday. It happened here on the ocean side of Coastal Highway near Inlet Road around 11 a.m. This caused the kite to fly away where it struck the roof rack of a 2006 Nissan Murano on Coastal Highway, says Sr. Cpl. Jason Hatchell, state police spokesman.
Nobody in the Nissan was injured but a 62-year-old female was taken to the hospital by ambulance complaining of a head injury and neck pain.

ANOTHER DEAD SEA TURTLE ON REHOBOTH'S BEACH
A dead sea turtle was unearthed on the beach off Queen Street and people started to complain about the odor late Saturday afternoon.
Rehoboth Beach Patrol members placed the turtle in a plastic bag and left it for investigators from the MERR Institute. Suzanne Thurman, MERR executive director, said she will have info available later today.
Last week they investigated a dead loggerhead near the Henlopen jetty.
She says MERR also responded to another dead loggerhead sea turtle and a dead baby dolphin this past weekend, both in the Cape Henlopen State Park.

REHOBOTH ARTIST OFFERS HER UNIQUE ARTWORK TO BIDEN!
That was Sara England's artwork on display by her friend, Ruthie Cope, along the Biden motorcade route to city hall this past Friday. This particular print is of the Biden beach house with the President's previous dogs. England hopes the President saw her artwork and will come to claim his limited-edition print!
"This was a concept I had just as Covid hit," says England, to create "portraits of people's houses and their pets." Her studio, The Ruff Life, specializes mostly in dog art that is original, whimsical and decorative.
"One day he'll see it and want it," says England. It's #1 of 200 limited edition prints, she pointed out, and it can be Joe Biden's if he comes and picks it up! She would even let any of the other Biden family or an aide come and claim the artwork!
England uses a kind-of-secret technique combining her acrylic paintings with her computer skills to produce the giclée-quality prints.
Look for her unique doggie-related artwork in her gallery at 46 Baltimore Avenue in downtown Rehoboth Beach.

REHOBOTH COMMISSIONER CANDIDATE NEWS--- As of Friday, Lynne Coan, Rehoboth Beach city spokeswoman, says only one candidate has filed to run for one of the two open commissioner seats. That's incumbent Comm. Edward Chrzanowski. No word from Comm. Susan Gay who is also up for election this summer. The deadline to file is 4:30 p.m. today!
ISLE OF WIGHT BOATING ACCIDENT IN O.C.--- Lauren Moses, Maryland DNR spokeswoman, says around 10:30 p.m. this past Saturday, her agency's police located a vessel up against the pier at Isle of Wight Nature Park. The boating occupants stated that they had struck the rocks near the Route 90 Bridge. According to police, there were three people on board, one with substantial injuries, one with minor and one with no injuries. All three were removed from the boat with the officers' help. Their boat and the pier had sustained significant damage. One of the occupants was flown to a trauma center for further treatment and the remaining two occupants refused medical assistance. This investigation is ongoing, she added.
CONSTRUCTION WORKER INJURED IN BETHANY, FLOWN TO TRAUMA CENTER--- A 31-year-old male construction worker suffered a suspected femur fracture on North Atlantic Avenue in the area of Ocean View Parkway in Bethany Beach around 9 a.m. this past Wednesday, says Phil Brackin, EMS Chief, Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company. According to the patient's coworkers they were unloading a spoil of cable/tube off of an equipment trailer when the tongue of the trailer came up, knocking the patient to the ground, and then landed on his right leg creating the injury. He was flown to a trauma center.
MOTORSCOOTERS, MOPEDS ON BIKE TRAILS--- Rangers in the Cape Henlopen State Park had several complaints again this past weekend of mopeds or motor scooters being driven on the bike trails.
