Bicyclist Injured in Crash


Dewey Beach- Delaware State Police are investigating a crash involving a bicyclist that occurred this morning at approximately 10:00 a.m., on State Route 1 north of Dewey Beach.


A 2000 Lexus RX3 operated by Amanda Irons, 18, of Newark, was exiting a motel parking on the northbound side of SR 1.  A bicycle operated by Olga Kabanova, 21, of Russia, was traveling south on the northbound shoulder of SR 1.  As the Lexus began to turn right (northbound) out of the parking lot, the front of the bicycle struck its right front bumper.  After impact, Ms. Kabanova was ejected off the bicycle and landed on the shoulder.


Ms Kabanova, who was wearing a helmet, was treated at Beebe Medical Center for contusions to her left leg, scrapes and abrasions.


Ms. Kabanova was charged with operating a bicycle on the wrong side of the roadway.


Ms. Irons was not injured in the crash.
